UTC vs GMT
For everyday use they show the same time. GMT is a time zone used by the UK in winter; UTC is the scientific standard kept by atomic clocks, and it never changes for daylight saving.
Reading offsets
UTC+9 means nine hours ahead of UTC (Tokyo). UTC−5 means five hours behind (New York in winter). Some places use half or quarter hours, like India at UTC+5:30 and Nepal at UTC+5:45.
